"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:
for it is the power of God unto salvation to every
one that believeth."--Romans 1:16

I know God won't give me anything I can't handle. I just wish he didn't trust me so much. ~~Mother Teresa |
"When a poor person dies of hunger,
it has not happened because God did not take care of him or her. It has happened because neither you nor I wanted to give that person what he or she needed."

I have been contemplating the situation of this world and with sadness in my heart I see the selfishness, hardhearted behavior and utter hopelessness that surrounds us. In thinking of others and the people that have walked this earth in selflessness, my thoughts turn to Mother Teresa or now the Blessed Theresa of Calcutta. I know of no other individual (excepting our Savior) of whom is a global icon of goodness; respected by many because of her works regardless of the name tagged on their individual practiced faith; a tangible presence of Christ’s one great commandment...To Love Thy Neighbor as Thy Self... I am trying to make room amongst my necessary reading for homework and class assignments to read her book "No Greater Love".
Growing up Catholic, as a child I had many different associations with several of the Nun's serving our parish and those who taught Catechism to us every week and always held a special fondness for these faithful women who worked to help all they were in contact with. As a young girl, I always thought instead of becoming a wife and mother I would join an order and serve God....Well life changes when we grow up and as expected our goals and dreams change as well That being said, there were several Sisters I loved and respected that I know greatly influenced my life.
~Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church~
The first sister to influence me was Sister Joachim. She was such a crotchety ol' gal and was very dear to me. She was cross, stern and never hesitated a moment to correct inappropriate behavior (or at least what she saw as unacceptable). I always remember that my sister liked to wear lower cut (very modest actually) shirts that zipped up the front to church with a nice skirt. I remember on more than one occasion, Sister Joachim walking past the pew we were in and stopping to either ask for it to be zipped up or she would actually swiftly lean over and quickly zip it all the way up. It was so funny to me at the time, however Sister Joachim had an excellent memory even though my sister and I were 6 years apart. I remember her catching me inside the church and her pulling me aside to remind me about the qualities of modesty (my shirts were lower cut than Theresa's but still quite modest) and what real beauty was about and it didn't include short skirts and low cut blouses....
St. Hyacinth Catholic Church --------------------------------------------- Sister Ann and Sister Michael were two of the sisters that taught Catechism at St. Hyacinth and they were two very special ladies coming from two polar opposites. Sister Ann was small, elegant, sweet, soft spoken and loving. She was the image of what one would expect a nun to look and act like. She was so positively radiant in her love for Heavenly Father, our Savior Jesus Christ and his gospel that she appeared to glow from within. Her counter, Sister Michael, was just the opposite, was every bit as loving and kind as Sister Ann however she loved to live it up. She would come out in her habit (not the flying nun kind) and play sports with us as she loved sports or hitch up her skirt for hiking ease or a splash in the stream. She was round, loud, outspoken and busy...however, when you needed a good cry oddly Sister Michael would be the one to go to. I loved these two Sisters; my life is richer and my heart has been blessed by knowing them.
